Cornbread is a staple in any Texas household. Especially mine! This is my grandma’s recipe for the best cornbread of your life!
In my home state of Texas, we take food pretty seriously. If you’ve ever been, you know! (If you haven’t, what are you doing? Come visit! :)) Every gathering or party we have is always around the table with a TON food.
In my family, we usually begin with a big serving of bbq basics. This includes ribs, sausage, and, ribs. On the side we have potato salad, coleslaw, and cornbread. And we ALWAYS finish off the meal with peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.
Aside from the peach cobbler, the cornbread is my absolute favorite! What’s not to like? It’s the perfect blend of sweet and salty, it’s a delicious fluffy texture, and super buttery! I honestly don’t think you could ask for more!
For today’s blog post, I’m showing you how to make the perfect buttery cornbread every single time! Alrighty, let’s get baking!
Ingredients
The ingredients for the cornbread are pretty self explanatory but I’ll detail them out anyways. 🙂
Flour: Gives the bread it’s bread texture.
Salt: Counters the sweetness of the sugar.
Baking powder: Rising agent
Cornmeal: It’s corn bread! Of course you need some corn meal. 🙂
Butter: Do I even have to explain this one?😂
Sugar: Adds the sweetness into the bread that we all love
Egg: Binds all ingredients together.
Milk: Thins batter out a bit for better texture. (More airy.)
That’s it! Believe it or not, those 7 ingredients are all you need to make the most amazing cornbread.
Baking
A cast iron skillet is a key tool in real Texas cooking. honestly. Using a cast iron is especially great in this recipe! Because the metal gets so hot, all sides of whatever you’re cooking in it get cooked really well. This is really important in a good cornbread. The hot sides and bottom of the pan, ensure that the bottom of it is fully cooked, and even a little crisp. You don’t want a soggy bottom on your bread! 😉
This is the playlist I recommend listening to while eating your delicious meal. 🙂
